Wine Cellar Plans Now Available.
These wine cellar designs began as a real project for a real client – Not just a set of drawings on paper. My clients were building their dream/ retirement home and had their designer include a room on the lower level, part of which was going to be built into the hillside of the lot. They contacted me while the house was still under construction. I was able to measure the space when the drywall and door was in place and I based the design to get the maximum storage from the space. The goal was simple: create a cellar that felt intentional, efficient, and built to last. It needed to maximize storage, respect the space it lived in, and be straightforward enough to build without unnecessary complication. I began building and I installed on-site after the room was painted and the floor was down.
After completing the project, I shared the build on my YouTube channel, Oregon Makers.
The response was stronger than I expected. Viewers had thoughtful questions – about layout, joinery, spacing, materials, and installation.
Many viewers asked for plans.
Rather than continue to answer the those questions in the YouTube comments, I decided to document the project properly.
These plans reflect the cellar as it was actually built – not a theoretical design. I’ve made a universally common plan available that would satisfy ninety percent of wine folks. It includes dimensions, layout decisions for maximizing the yield of materials, and construction details that worked in practice. That said, every space is different. Use these drawings as a foundation, then adjust thoughtfully to suit your own room, climate, and collection.
These projects assumes a builder who is comfortable in a shop and familiar with basic tools, basic shop skills, and construction methods. A table saw, chop saw a drill, or drill press, either finish nail gun, battery or pneumatic is the bare minimum of tools you will need.
Nothing here is overly complex, but precision matters. Take your time. Measure carefully. Build deliberately.
If you decide to build this cellar, I hope is serves you well for years to come.
Build it carefully. Modify it thoughtfully. Make it yours.
